The positive trend in EV adoption was further underscored by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), which highlighted an 8.2% growth in the EV market in January 2024. This growth not only signifies the best-performing January since 2020 but also marks the 18th consecutive month of increased market share, now standing at 14.7%. The fleet market, in particular, has shown remarkable enthusiasm for EVs, accounting for more than six in ten new cars registered, a clear indicator of the shifting preferences among UK businesses towards more sustainable vehicle options.
In response to this growing momentum, there are calls for the government to play a more proactive role in supporting this transition. Proposals such as halving VAT on new BEV purchases ahead of the next Budget have been suggested as ways to make electric vehicles more accessible to individual consumers.
